Exciting Additions to the Trail with a Tale Art Trail!
Date published: 25 October 2024
New sculptures added to the trail!
Our Art trail for Summer 2025 in Tunbridge Wells will be an unforgettable experience that will boost local tourism, support local businesses, and critically raise vital funds for Demelza, who have been providing outstanding clinical care and emotional support for children with serious or life-limiting conditions for over 25 years throughout the South East.
From July to September 2025, the town will be transformed into a free, accessible outdoor art trail that celebrates art, community, and storytelling. Each sculpture will be designed to tell a unique tale, and Demelza are delighted to be collaborating with award-winning local children’s author, Alex Brooks, who is generously giving her time pro-bono, on this project.
Lavinia Jarrett, Chief Executive at Demelza, said:
“We are delighted with the response and support that we have received from the local community to date, with ten schools signed up already. We have RTW Together BID, Kent Reliance and Esquire Developments on board as Headline Trail Sponsors, and Yeomans on board as our official print partner, alongside creative partner Catch a Fire. This is a new direction for Demelza and we are excited to be working with Wild in Art, bringing something new and family-friendly to Tunbridge Wells. As well as raising awareness of the hospice services we offer to children with serious or life-limiting conditions in the community, this initiative will generate income to support families to celebrate the joy in life, making precious memories during challenging times.”
Alex Green, CEO of RTW Together BID commented:
“RTW Together BID is delighted to be a sponsor of Demelza’s Trail with a Tale. The BID is committed to events that increase footfall and spend in the town, and this free public walking trail will provide residents, and tourists alike, with a wonderful experience in and around the town centre of Royal Tunbridge Wells in the Summer of 2025.”
What to Expect
🔹 10 Large Sculptures: The trail will feature a family of 10 stunning large sculptures—each sponsored by local businesses and designed to tell a unique tale embodying important lessons such as kindness, sharing, and courage.
Some of the sculptures will showcase the extraordinary talent of local artists, and competition winners, others will be a big surprise and arrive pre-painted.
🔹 20+ Smaller Sculptures: Local schools and community groups are invited to participate in our creative learning programme. Businesses can also sponsor these charming smaller sculptures—hares, tortoises, snails, or owls—on behalf of schools or clubs, giving children the joy of decorating them. These delightful characters will then find their happy-ever-after spot along our trail, enhancing the experience and fostering community engagement. After the trail, the sculptures will be returned to the schools or groups as lasting mementos.
Supporting a Worthy Cause
By supporting Trail with a Tale, you’re helping to raise money for Demelza, a charity providing essential services to local families with children who have serious or life-limiting conditions. There’s an estimated unmet need in Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding area, with around thousands of families in the South East who could access Demelza’s services. We are already supporting 50 families in Tunbridge Wells, and our nurses work in Tunbridge Wells Hospital every week.
It is hoped the event will make Demelza more visible, engage with communities, and encourage families who need our care to connect with our services.
Once the trail concludes, a selection of the large sculptures will be auctioned off online in October 2025, with all proceeds going directly to Demelza.
