Demelza Charity Logo

At first inspired by snails that love eating garden vegetables, Helen created the character Brassica, whose shell looks just like a cabbage. After learning more about Alex Brook’s creepy crawly tale, she added insects too, and now the sculpture and the tale reflect one another. Helen Alexander-Bristow is an illustrator and painter whose creative journey began as a personal outlet for managing anxiety and depression. Helen has a long-standing love for illustrated books and a deep passion for visual storytelling.

Read a story inspired by this sculpture and written by children’s author, Alex Brooks.
