The Skinners’ Kent Primary School tortoise theme is ‘If you go into the woods’ to represent the woodland area next to the school and being part of the Knights Wood community. Our Year 6 pupils have called the Tortoise ‘Gaia’. The name is from ancient Greek and means ‘The Earth’ and is something they learnt as a class this year during their work on Ancient Greece. They felt it would be appropriate as Gaia views the Earth as a system with the living organisms and the planet’s environment interact to maintain conditions suitable for life and this tied in with the theme of the seasons within our design.
